LDF begins talks on cabinet formation; Jose faction may get one minister post, chief whip post
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM leaders will hold discussions with the allies on Monday regarding ministerial posts in the LDF cabinet. The talks would revolve around arriving at a decision before the LDF meeting to be held on May 17. In the coming two days Vijayan will finish his one to one meetings with the nine allies and then move on to pick his cabinet ministers from the CPI-M. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will lead the talks with the allied parties. The collective opinion is to give minister posts to new faces.
CPM will hold talks with Kerala Congress M, NCP, Janata Dal, Kerala Congress B, Janadhipathya Kerala Congress and INL. Kerala Congress (M) have demanded 2 ministerial posts. But it is learnt that one ministerial post and a chief whip post may be offered to them.
One minister post would be offered to NCP, Janata Dal parties each. Antony Raju and K B Ganesh Kumar could get the posts. But if the party decides not to offer ministerial posts to small parties which have only one MLA, then they may not be included in the cabinet.
A decision not to offer minister’s post to Congress S has been arrived unanimously. CPI plans to keep 4 ministerial posts and deputy speaker post but leave the chief whip post. Last time, CPM had 13 ministers but this time it may come down to 12.
CPM is planning to complete the talks within two days on the representation of each party in the cabinet. On May 17, the LDF meeting will arrive at a final decision on the Cabinet formation which will be informed to the allies.
On May 18, all allied parties will hold meetings and select their candidates who would become ministers. After this, the LDF parliamentary party meeting will be held to elect Pinarayi Vijayan as the chief minister. The oath taking will be held on May 20, in all probability.
