LDF announces candidates; all are new faces
Thiruvananthapuram: The Left Democratic Front announced candidates for the bypolls in the five constituencies of Kerala. CPM district member Shankar Rai in Manjeswaram, Advocate Manu Roy in Ernakulam, Alappuzha district secretariat member Manu C Pulickal in Aroor, DYFI state vice president K U Janeesh Kumar in Konni and Thiruvananthapuram mayor V K Prasanth in Vattiyoorkavu are contesting for LDF. It is to be noted that the LDF candidate list consists of young and new faces.
Earlier reports had claimed that former MLA and CPM district committee member C. H. Kunjambu would contest the bypoll in Manjeswaram. However, in the last minute, decision on Shankar Rai was taken.
The move is based on the assumption that a candidate from Kannada linguistic minorities would benefit the party as the area has a vast population of the community.
Advocate Manu Roy, who is contesting in Ernakulam, is the son of senior journalist K M Roy.
CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, while announcing the candidates, said that in the present situation the bypolls need not be considered as an evaluation of the government. Speaking to reporters here, he said that the situation has changed since the Lok Sabha elections.
LDF is confident of facing the elections, he added.
