Kochi: Opposition leader VD Satheesan has attributed the suspension of CI Sudheer, the cop accused of misconduct that allegedly led to the suicide of Aluva law student Mofiya, to the protests of Congress.
According to him, the protest rectified the state government that tried to protect the police official. He applauded the DCC leaders and party workers of Ernakulam district.
The Congress workers, led by MP Benny Behanan and MLA Anwar Sadath, had been protesting for three days against maintaining CI Sudheer in service.
The action was taken soon after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan talked to Mofiya’s father over the phone on Friday.
Satheesan also pointed out that UDF and Congress will not take any compromising stance on the matters concern security of women in Kerala.
MP Behanan conveyed his contentment in 'getting justice to Mofiya'. He said that the SP called MLA Anwar to inform him about the suspension.
Edayappuram native Mofiya Parveen had died by suicide on Monday at her residence. She had accused her husband and his family of domestic violence. Aluva CI CL Sudheer's name was mentioned in the suicide note. Mofiya’s family has alleged that CI Sudheer had insulted Mofiya and her father Irshad when they went to the police station for recording her statement.
