Kerala logs 34,199 new COVID cases, TPR at 37.17 pc

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 34,199 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity rate also continued to rose and touched 37.17 per cent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-5,953, Thiruvananthapuram- 5,684 Thrissur-3,604, Kozhikode-3,386, Kottayam-2,333 Pathanamthitta-1,944, Palakkad-1,920, Kannur-1,814, Kollam-1,742, Malappuram-1,579, Idukki-1,435, Alappuzha-1,339, Wayanad-798 and Kasaragod-668.

A total of 91,983 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

2,91,945 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,85,742 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 6,203 people are in hospitals. 1,094 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.

Among the 1,68,383 active Covid cases reported, only 3.2 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.

Along with 49 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 85 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 51,160 in the state.

125 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 33,195 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 596 patients remains unidentified. 283 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, 8,193 recoveries were also reported in the state.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-1,206, Kollam-463, Pathanamthitta-510, Alappuzha-196, Kottayam-694, Idukki-241, Ernakulam-1490, Thrissur-904, Palakkad-511, Malappuram-216, Kozhikode-740, Wayanad-128, Kannur-219 and Kasaragod-675.

52,44,206 people were recovered from the disease so far.
