Body of Kodiyeri to reach Kannur by morning; last rites at Payyambalam tomorrow

Kannur: The last rites of senior CPM leader and former state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, who passed away at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, will be held at Payyambalam on Monday evening.

His mortal remains will be brought to Kannur on Sunday by air ambulance. It will leave Chennai only by 10.40 am and is expected to reach Kannur airport by 11.40 am. After the procedures at the airport for about 15 minutes, the body will be received by M V Jayarajan and other leaders. By 12 noon, the body will leave Kannur airport and for a brief time will be placed at Mattanur town hall for public homage. It is expected to reach his home town of Thalassery only by 2 pm. It will be kept at Thalassery Town Hall for the public to pay homage. On Monday, the body will be shifted to his residence in Madapedikka and later to the Kannur district committee after 10 am.

Meanwhile, a hartal will be observed in Thalassery, Dharmadam and Kannur constituencies in his memory on Monday. Earlier, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan postponed his Europe trip on Sunday due to the demise of Kodiyeri.

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan passed away on Saturday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Apollo Hospital, Chennai.
