Landslide in Nilambur: Many people feared trapped
Nilambur: In the heavy rain and flood havoc, Nilambur of Malappuram district has been isolated. Many areas in Nilambur that shares border with forests are still experiencing landslides. The rescuers cannot reach the hilly areas where mudslides occurred.
Both sides of Chaliyar river are overflowing due to the heavy rain in the forest area. A total of 15 relief camps were opened in Nilambur so far. Many people are still being transferred to the camps. As per reports, there is shortage of food in many camps. No news is available from the inland areas like Ambuttanpotty, Pathar and Poolappadam in Nilambur.
It has been 30 hours since Nilambur is isolated. The town is submerged in water from Thursday morning. With this, all roads to the area has been blocked. Though fishermen are proceeding with rescue operation, they cannot reach the inland areas.
Four persons were killed after a house collapsed in Edavanna in Malappuram. Two persons went missing in Valayannoor. Edakkara town is fully underwater. More than 50 houses in Pothukal Kavalappara has been under the soil after a mudslip. People are trapped in an island formed in Kavalappara area in Bhoothanam.
