Landslide hits Kannur; residents advised to exercise caution


Kannur: As heavy rains continue, a landslide occurred on Nedumpoyil-Mananthavady road here on Sunday. It is learnt that water level is increasing in Kanjirappuzha river. Areas in Vellara have been flooded. Following this, the authority asked the residents on river banks to exercise caution.

It is for the second consecutive day, Kannur district reported a landslide. On the other day, a landslide occurred inside the forest at Nedumpoyil in Kannur and Vilangadu in Kozhikode.

Vilangadu bridge was completely submerged in flash floods.

Meanwhile, the India Metrological Department has predicted heavy rains in Kerala till September 1. People living in low-lying areas, river banks and areas prone to landslides and mudslides are advised to stay alert.
