Landslide, flood, more rains reported in Kannur, Idukki districts
Kozhikode: Landslides have been reported from various places of northern Kerala after the rain intensified. Following flash flooding, water rose to the height of two persons in Nilambur town in Malappuram within a single night.
Huge losses occurred in Kanichar in Kannur due to cyclone along with heavy rain. An alert has been issued for people dwelling on the banks of Chaliyar in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts.
Landslide occurred in Kottiyoor, Chappamala, Adakkathodu, Kannappankundu and Mattikuunu areas. Valapattanam river overflowed. 15 houses on the banks of Valappatanam river were completely submerged.
Mudslip and flood was reported from Makkiyad Thonichal regions in Wayanad and Nedumkandam colony in Malappuram. Traffic was disrupted on Thamarassery ghat road and in Vandipperiyar road in Idukki. Huge losses have been reported from Moolamattam.
Water level in Munnar has increased. Marayur region has been isolated after the temporary bridge collapsed. Shutters of Pambla and Kallarkutty dams were opened as water level increased. More shutters are likely to be opened.
Five shutters of Malankara dam have been opened. A bridge under construction in Marayur was damaged. Many families were alienated after a bridge submerged in Arayanjilimannu. Traffic was disrupted in Churuli after roads were damaged. Damages has been reported from Upper Kuttanadu also.
