Landslide destroys entire village; only 11 of 80 houses remain in Pachakkadu now
Puthumala (Wayanad): Dirt, rocks and water that washed away Puthumala village in the massive landslide had its origin from Pachakkadu. The pieces of rocks shattered the entire area within a few minutes.
There were about 80 houses in Mele Pachakkadu and Pachakkadu. But now only 11 houses are seen above the ground and all others are underground. The people here had a narrow escape from the disaster.
They all had shifted from the place on the previous day of the landslide. A house had collapsed in the village indicating the upcoming calamity. After this, most of them moved out of houses and in a few minutes the landslide occurred.
More than 300 persons were residing here. A few from Pachakkadu also went missing. Hamza, Avaran and Aboobakkar had left the place and then returned for some purpose just before the tragedy.
According to preliminary reports, 54 houses in Pachakkadu were completely destroyed. Even partially destroyed houses are unusable presently. Pachakkadu has been destroyed forever.
The people have lost all of their properties. Those who ran away from the place have not yet seen the present condition of our village. They are unlikely to have the strength to witness the scene.
