Land acquisition in Lakshadweep: Flags removed, administrator likely to leave
Kavaratti: The revenue department has removed the flags erected on private lands at Kavaratti as part of acquiring land in Lakshadweep. It is hinted that union home minister Amit Shah summoned Lakshadweep administrator Praful Khoda Patel to New Delhi. Hence, he is likely to leave the island early.
As per the official visit schedule, Praful Khoda Patel is expected to return from the island on June 20.
The flags erected on the land acquired for nursing college and paramedical institute projects were removed. A controversy triggered on the island after the revenue department erected flags on the lands of over 20 individuals without notice.
As per the Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation 2021 (LDAR) draft rule introduced by Praful Khoda Patel, the authority can acquire any land for developmental activities. The land owner will not have any rights on the lands acquired by the island administration authority.
Before collecting the opinion of the public on the new draft rule, the authority initiated action for land acquisition. This move triggered a controversy. But the officials hinted that the flags were erected to help Praful Patel identify the acquired land. They declared that they would not cancel the land acquisition procedures.
