Kozhikode: Slaughterhouse waste management in Kozhikode town has become cumbersome, owing to a lack of proper mechanism.

It is learnt that around 7 tons of slaughter waste get produced from the cattle and meat merchandise within the city limits. However, there is no proper mechanism to process this waste.

Those involved in the spectrum have to rely on private agencies involved in taking the waste. But sometimes these agencies are not prompt and waste management became a tough task for the slaughterhouses.

The merchants engaged in slaughterhouse business have been urging the administration to find a mechanism to resolve the waste issue. They alleged that if provision for poultry waste management is there, then there should be measures in place to manage other wastes too.

Meanwhile, Kozhikode Corporation’s health department standing committee chief Dr S Jayasree reacted that the administration is seeking a new agency for managing slaughterhouse waste.
