Kollam: Opposition leader VD Satheesan said on Thursday that KV Thomas was appointed as Kerala’s representative in Delhi with Cabinet rank to act as a mediator between CPM and BJP.

Talking to reporters at a press conference in Kollam, Satheesan said that the Cabinet decision is to appoint Thomas as a liaison officer to strengthen the relationship between Kerala CPM and the BJP. If the Bengaluru- Delhi trips of Thomas, after leaving the Congress, are examined it will be clear that he was in constant touch with Sangh Parivar leaders, he said.

The Congress leader said that Thomas has been appointed as an official mediator to settle various matters and to maintain illicit relationships. The government should explain why an appointment that will cost the state crores was being made at a time when the state is facing dire financial crisis and unable to pay salaries or pensions.

Satheesan further said that former IFS officer Venu Rajamony is already in Delhi as Officer on Special Duty. There is a separate office at the Kerala House headed by the controller. Apart from this, the Kerala government has a legal department, information office, tourism information office NORKA office and a KSEB office in Delhi. “Then what was the purpose of this appointment?” Satheesan asked.

The opposition leader said that with the appointment of Thomas, the government was putting additional burden at a time when the state is in financial crisis.
