Fire safety officers attempt to put out fire following explosion at a firecracker unit in Thrissur

Thrissur: A worker who sustained severe injuries in a blast at a firecracker manufacturing unit at Kundannur in Thrissur died on Tuesday morning. Chelakkara native Manikandan (55) was undertaking treatment at Government Medical College Hospital here following the mishap that happened on Monday.

His condition was critical as he suffered 90 per cent burns in the blast.

Meanwhile, deputy collector Yamuna Devi informed that the temporary shed in which the firecrackers were manufactured had been operating illegally. The authorities have not been informed about the fireworks manufacturing unit functioning in Kundannur. The licence in the name of the owner Sreenivasan has been cancelled, added the deputy collector.

Police have recorded the arrest of Kundannur native Sreenivasan and Sundarakshan following the blast.
