Kummanam not interested in contesting from Vattiyoorkavu; says party will decide everything
Thiruvananthapuram: Former Mizoram governor Kummanam Rajasekharan said he has no interest in contesting the assembly election from Vattiyoorkavu.
“I have no interest in contesting from Vattiyoorkavu and neither have I asked anyone to contest from the constituency,” he said while speaking to media here. Kummanam Rajasekharan added that the party will decide who will contest from the constituency.
The former BJP state president said the party had a good chance of victory in Vattiyoorkavu. “I had contested the polls from there last time. I was defeated as both the CPM and Congress joined hands. CPM traded votes and it was clarified by K Muraleedharan himself. The Congress leader himself has stated that he won the poll because CPM helped him,” Kummanam Rajasekharan pointed out.
“Based on Muraleedharan’s statement, the CPM had taken action against its workers in the constituency. This way of trading votes has been taking place in Kerala for many years. The Congress and CPM creating such unholy alliances is nothing new. It may happen again during polls this time,” the BJP leader said.
Speaking about his candidature, Kummanam Rajasekharan said it was the party’s decision. “It is the BJP that should decide if I should contest the polls or not. It is the party which should respond to the district committee’s demand for me to contest the polls. The party will decide the candidate after discussing all the matters,” he said.
“I will give my opinion if the party asks me. I have no interest in contesting the polls and I have not asked anyone to contest. The BJP’s chances of victory will not be affected by my refrainment from polls. The BJP’s chances of victory are not decided by individuals but by ideas and ideology. What the party did for the people is more important,” Kummanam Rajasekharan pointed out.
“What have I done for the public as an individual. Whatever has been done for the public has been done by the party. Based on the projects implemented, the people are interested in the central government led by Modi. The PM has gained the trust of the people and it will reflect in the election. Even if the CPM and Congress joined hands, the BJP will make inroads in the assembly constituencies. The BJP will win,” he said.
