Kummanam moves Supreme court to join as party in government's petition against CAA
Thiruvanathapuram: BJP leader Kummanam Rajasekharan approached the supreme court seeking permission to join as party in the petition filed by state government against Citizenship Amendment Act. He said in the plea that the state government cannot approach the apex court against CAA.
Kummanam mentioned both legal and political issues in his petition. He said the argument made by the state government that the resolution passed by them in the Assembly is backed by majority of the people in Kerala is wrong as the election in the state was held in 2016 and the bill was passed by the Parliament in 2019.
He pointed out that the state government cannot approach the supreme court as per Article 131 of the Constitution. Kummanam’s petition will be considered along with the suit filed by the government.
