Kummanam and Surendran in BJP’s primary list of candidates; final decision in 3 days
Kochi: The BJP core committee here on Sunday prepared a list of possible candidates for the assembly elections to five constituencies.
The list includes former state president Kummanam Rajasekharan. “A clear picture regarding the candidates for each constituency will be available in three days,” BJP leader M.T Ramesh explained after the meeting.
“Divulging details about the candidates is not the BJP’s way of doing things. State leaders of the party will be in the fray. Our target is to show stiff competition in all five constituencies,” clarified Ramesh
Despite Kummanam Rajasekharan’s lack of interest in taking part in the assembly election, the BJP has included him in the list of candidates likely to contest from Vattiyoorkavu.
Meanwhile, K. Surendran is being considered for Konni constituency. The BJP had performed well in Konni during the Lok Sabha polls. K. Surendran had contested the LS polls from Pathanamthitta in the backdrop of the Sabarimala protests. B. Gopalakrishnan is a strong contender for Ernakulam.
BJP leaders believe that they have a better chance of victory in Vattiyoorkavu and Manjeshwaram constituencies. The party is planning to field strong candidates there. The BJP state leadership will hand over the primary list of candidates to the national leadership soon. The BJP national leadership is expected to make a final decision in two days.
