New Delhi: Supreme Court issued a notice after considering the Kerala government’s petition challenging the High Court order which revoked the vice-chancellor appointment at Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies. A Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and justice PS Narasimha considered the petition.

The Supreme Court had already sent another notice to the defendants after examining the petition filed by former vice-chancellor Dr Riji John against the High Court order. The court informed that this petition would be considered on January 13. On Thursday, former attorney general KK Venugopal requested the court to examine the state government’s plea along with the petition of Dr Riji John.

The Kerala High Court order had asserted that the former vice-chancellor Dr Riji John was eligible to be appointed as the VC. CUSAT former professor G Sadhasivan Nair had filed a petition questioning this observation of the HC. In the Supreme Court, Riji John’s lawyers Jayanth Muthuraj and Annie Mathew requested to not send any notice over the petition as it was moved by a person who is not linked with this case.

Meanwhile, senior lawyer KP Kailasnath Pillai who appeared for G Sadhasivan Nair informed the Supreme Court that they had moved a petition against Riji John in the High Court. By considering this claim, the Supreme Court bench has decided to consider the petition of G Sadhasivan on January 13 along with the other petitions in the case. However, the court hasn't sent a notice regarding Sadhasivan’s petition yet.
