Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty here on Saturday said that school textbooks for the next academic year will be distributed through the Kudumbashree Mission.

All the students under the midday meal scheme will be provided with 5 kilograms of rice during the summer holidays. The distribution of rice in schools will begin on March 20.

The state-level inauguration of the distribution of textbooks will be held at Alappuzha on March 25, said the minister. An order has been issued to print 2.81 crore copies of the first volume of the textbooks. A total of 45 lakh copies of the books of classes 9 and 10 have been delivered to the district hubs for distribution.

About Rs 130 crore will be spent on the distribution of handloom uniforms in the next academic year.

Meanwhile, the Kerala School Education Congress, organised under the leadership of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), will be held from April 1 to 3, 2023.
