Thiruvananthapuram: A protest march staged by KSU here on Wednesday turned violent after the activists tried to cross the police barricades. Police arrested several activists to take the situation under control. KSU activists marched to the assembly house as protesting against the assault on a female activist of Law College in Thiruvananthapuram.

Police blocked the march while protestors tried to enter the road leading to the assembly. Police used water cannon to disperse the angry mob as they tried to barge into the assembly compound by breaking the barricades. The situation turned violent after some protestors hurled stones at the police.

Following this, KSU workers staged a protest in Palayam. The activists also destroyed banners and flags of left parties placed near a Martyr's Column. Subsequently, a clash erupted between the police and the protestors here.
