Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress leadership has introduced a provision to provide opportunities for KSU state members who have been affected by age restrictions and marriage criteria. This new provision will enable them to be eligible for contesting in office-bearer posts within the Youth Congress. This decision has been keeping the upcoming Youth Congress elections, scheduled to commence on June 1.
According to the Congress rule book, the age limit for KSU (Kerala unit) is 27, while for NSU (central unit) it is 30. In the event of an extended reorganization period, a two-year relaxation on these criteria will be provided. Similarly, state-level office bearers of KSU will now have the opportunity to directly contest for the positions of state general secretary and district president in the Youth Congress. However, the age limit and marriage criteria may still present challenges. Hence, the Congress leadership has introduced a new mandate that these affected individuals will be considered for these positions.
The inclusion of married members as office-bearers of KSU has led to internal conflicts . In response to this, two vice presidents have submitted their resignations to the NSU. One of the main points of contention is that the final list, which was submitted to the central unit, underwent major alterations compared to the list prepared by the state leadership. Just a few days ago, during a state leadership meeting held at the KPCC office, a verbal argument among KSU members escalated into a physical altercation. It is against this backdrop that the current move has been made.
