KSU calls for state-wide education bandh after police baton charges protest march


The activists took out the march demanding a CBI probe into the Walayar rape and murder case and an independent inquiry into the mark frauds in Kerala and MG universities.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Students Union (KSU) march to the Legislative Assembly here on Tuesday against examination frauds in universities and the Walayar case resulted in a scuffle between police and activists.

Police baton charged the activists injuring several including Shafi Parambil MLA and KSU state president K. M. Abhijith. In protest of the police excess on activists, KSU called for a state-wide educational bandh on Wednesday.

The activists took out the march demanding a CBI probe into the Walayar rape and murder case and an independent inquiry into the mark frauds in Kerala and MG universities.

While the march was ongoing, the DGP had issued an order handing over the Kerala University exam fraud case to crime branch.

During the march, activists led by Shafi Parambil MLA blocked the road. Police arrested and removed them from the spot. The police van in which the arrested activists were taken away was waylaid by other activists taking part in the protest. This resulted in a scuffle between police and activists following which police baton charged the activists.

Several activists were injured in the baton charge. The MLA sustained injuries to his head and was bleeding. The injured were taken to a hospital. Tension prevailed in the area where a huge posse of police have been deployed. UDF leaders led by Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan visited the spot.
