Mangaluru: The Kerala government has intervened to help students from the state who are trapped here in neighbouring Karnataka following protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The students got trapped after a curfew was imposed in Mangaluru.
The government has deployed five Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses under police escort to bring the students home safely. The buses are from Kasaragod depot.
The buses have been sent to Mangaluru to bring maximum number of students back to Kerala. The buses have been sent in a convoy with police protection. The efforts are being coordinated by the Kasaragod collector Dr. D. Sajith Babu..
The buses have reached Pumpwell in Mangaluru, Sajith Babu said. He has instructed principals and officials of educational institutions concerned to take immediate steps to bring the students to the KSRTC buses.
The Kerala government had contacted its Karnataka counterpart in connection with the matter. Earlier, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had asked the Karnataka government to safely bring back home all Keralite students.
