Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC will soon roll out 1690 electric buses as part of the plan to switch to green fuels in the near future. Under two union government schemes, KSRTC will receive 1000 buses in addition to 690 buses bought with the help of KIIFBI.

A total of 750 buses will be provided by the union government on a rental basis, along with drivers, for long-distance services. KSRTC will have to pay Rs 43 per km as rent.

The remaining 250 buses will be provided free of cost under the Augmentation of City Bus Service Scheme.

Meanwhile, the state transport department has sought subsidies for the buses. However, no decision is yet to be taken on the matter.
