Kollam: KSRTC has decided to lease out its AC low-floor buses for shuttle services (bus used to shuttle to and from airports/ between terminals) across various airports in south India.
The move comes as a solution to curb the use of AC low-floor buses that are less fuel efficient. KSRTC apparently eyes reducing operational costs as fuel costs and salaries of employees will be met by ground handling agencies in the respective airport. The ground handling agency will also provide lease payments (monthly).
KSRTC has already given an AC low-floor bus to Thiruvananthapuram Airport. It will hand over two more buses to the airport. In Thiruvananthapuram, ground handling is done by Bird Group. The same group has approached KSRTC for more buses to Chennai, Coimbatore and Bengaluru airports.
KSRTC budget tourism cell has been supervising the initiative.
