KSRTC to launch ‘bus on demand’ service for regular passengers
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation is all set to launch ‘Bus on Demand’ service as a solution to the commutation problems of the regular passengers amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Under ‘Bus on Demand’ (BonD) service, KSRTC will operate service as per the demand of passengers to their destination.
At least 40 passengers are needed to operate a bus under the new service. KSRTC will charge a special ticket rate for the passengers who use BonD service. KSRTC will issue BonD season tickets for a trip of 15, 20, 25 days for the passengers. Seats will be confirmed to the passengers who take season tickets.
Under the BonD service, KSRTC bus will pick up passengers from their bus stop and drop them at their office. People who board the bus from KSRTC depot will have the facility to park their vehicle. If parking space is not available in any KSRTC depot, the authority will arrange a parking space near the depot.
A special travel card will be given to passengers who pre-book their trip. Passengers are advised to contact their nearest depot to collect the card.
BonD service aims to help the employees at government, semi-government, public sector and private sector offices. Those who want to use BonD service should contact their respective depots. Each passenger must inform the place from where they board the bus and their destination.
KSRTC has offered attractive discounts on the ticket rate for the passengers who book the ticket at first. Though special ticket rate is charged, each passenger will get insurance coverage for availing BonD service.
New India Insurance is providing insurance coverage to passengers. Under the insurance scheme, passengers will get an accident claim of Rs 30,000. Up to Rs 10 lakh will be given for accidental death.
KSRTC launched the new service to meet the financial crisis following the COVID-19 outbreak. The pilot phase of the service was successfully implemented at Nedumangad and Neyyattinkara depot in Thiruvananthapuram. Now, KSRTC is extending the service to all districts.
