KSRTC staff rest in waterlogged rooms in Munnar depot despite SHRC order

Munnar: Despite the Human Rights Commission order to renovate the restroom of KSRTC staff in Munnar depot, the deplorable state of the building remains the same for years. The chairman of Human Rights Commission, Justice Antony Dominic, had directed KSRTC to repair the restrooms on March 25.

Following release of the order, KSRTC informed the commission that Rs 8.5 lakh was allocated to repair the leakage of roof. The corporation also briefed that the Kothamangalam ATO has been directed to invite tender for the renovation. However, no action was taken following this.

The drivers and conductors who arrive at the depot are resting currently in the waterlogged rooms here. Due to the leakage on walls, the staff fear electrocution if they switch on any electrical appliances. It was following the news published by Mathrubhumi regarding the pathetic state of Munnar depot, Dr Guinness Madaswamy lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission citing the issue.
