Kochi: Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) filed a petition in Kerala High Court to direct the Popular Front of India (PFI) to pay for the losses incurred by the corporation during their state-wide hartal on 23 September. KSRTC demanded Rs 5.6 crore from PFI for vandalising buses and disrupting daily services.
KSRTC informed the court that 58 buses were vandalised by protestors and 10 employees were injured. The move came against the backdrop of the High Court directing the Kerala Government to take appropriate measures to ensure KSRTC receives compensation for the losses.
The court viewed that people who called for the hartal and vandalised KSRTC buses are liable to pay the compensation to KSRTC. Additionally, the court also directed the state government to recoup losses incurred due to disruptions in KSRTC services. Court also sought a report from the government regarding the same. Meanwhile, KSRTC approached the court requesting to be a party in the case. The court will consider the petition on Thursday.
