Thiruvananthapuram: Though KSRTC garnered Rs 193 crore as income during the month of May, it informed that the salaries of the employees will be further delayed.

The treasury became empty after paying up for overdraft, loan and diesel. Rs 46 crore was paid for overdraft and Rs 90 crore for diesel. Oil companies are not lending any more loans these days.

Although a letter was sent to the state government two weeks back seeking Rs 65 crore, no reply was received. As per the agreement signed between employees and management, the salary must be paid on the 5th of every month.

The management informed the employees union that salaries cannot be paid due to the current situation. Consequently, CITU, INTUC and BMS boycotted the meeting. The unions said that discussions can be held after deciding when the salaries will be paid. CITU will stage protests in front of the chief office starting Monday. Rs 82 crores is needed for this year’s salary distribution.

Like the previous month, this month’s salary distribution is also posing a big challenge as there has been no response from the government’s end so far. The salaries for the month of March and April were distributed after the 20th. For last months’s salary distribution, KSRTC utilised Rs 50 crores paid by the government in two instalments.

The unions have raised the opinion that salaries must be paid using the revenue as daily income has crossed Rs 6.5 crores.
