Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has decided to utilise the expertise of Kerala Rail Development Corporation Ltd (K-Rail) by appointing them as consultant of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). The decision was taken in a KSRTC board meeting held a few days back.
K-Rail, a joint venture of the Government of Kerala and the Ministry of Railways, was intended for development of railways in the state. It handles projects such as Silverline, greenfield rail lines to Karnataka via Wayanad and Kannur, Sabari rail project etc. None of these projects have received a final nod yet. It also manages construction of some of the rail overbridges in the state.
Following the government order, K-Rail officials visited KSRTC's ongoing projects. K-Rail is tasked with providing inputs to make the state's public transport system profitable.
