Thiruvananthapuram: Supreme Court has issued a notice on a petition challenging the Kerala High Court that revoked the decision to disburse different percentages of the enhanced dearness allowance (DA) to KSRTC staff and pensioners.
The bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Bela Trivedi issued the notice after hearing a petition filed by Kerala Government. However, the apex court dismissed the request to stay the High Court order.
Earlier, KSRTC planned to provide a dearness allowance of 109 per cent to petitioners and 112 per cent to employees. The decision to issue separate DA was based on the direction of the state government. However, a division bench of the Kerala High Court revoked this decision citing that it was discriminatory. Following this, State Government moved a petition in Supreme Court challenging the High Court order.
The state government argued that the issue of DA is part of state policy, and courts generally don't interfere in matters having financial implications.
