Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has allocated Rs 30 crore as emergency aid for the KSRTC, which has been reeling under financial crisis. With this, the KSRTC will be able to disperse the salaries for the month of June. The drivers and conductors will get the salaries first. Rs 52.5 crore need to be spent for settling these salaries.
KSRTC, at present, requires a total of Rs 82 crore for meeting its all expenses. Though the state government in July provided KSRTC with Rs 20 crore, the Corporation had to settle Rs 10 crore to oil companies itself. The other Rs 10 crore was spent for repaying the portion of Rs 50 crore worth overdraft (OD).
The remaining portion of OD needs to be settled immediately. With the new allocation, KSRTC hopes it can settle the OD by taking a portion from the day-to-day operation revenue. Following that, KSRTC is likely to take another OD worth Rs 50 crore.
Earlier, KSRTC had requested Rs 250 crore from the government to survive the crisis. Responding to the request, the state government had readied a revitalisation package. But the meeting called for discussing the matter has not happened yet.
