KSRTC conductors paying from pockets to repair electronic ticket machines
Kollam: Bus conductors of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) repairing the damaged electronic ticket machines by spending money from their own pockets.
The trend was forced upon the conductors as ‘Quantum Aeon’, a Bengaluru based company withdrew its services after the annual contract with the KSRTC ended. Repairing and other related services for the ticket machine was provided by the ‘Quantum Aeon’.
Conductors of the corporation decided to repair the damaged machines from their own pockets as they can’t return to the traditional tickets racks used in buses. At some depots, machines are repaired after pooling in money from all conductors.
At some other depots, repairing is done by outside mechanics. Though it is illegal according to the corporation, conductors have no other choice, a KSRTC staff said.
The short battery life of the machine is also a challenge for the conductors. Authorities aren’t willing to buy new chargers for the machines. Besides these issues, failure of servers at depots also creates huge loss to the corporation.
