Safna Siyad, her friend

Kalavoor: A 15-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a KSRTC bus and dragged across the road at Kamalapuram in Alappuzha on Saturday at around 2.15 pm. The deceased has been identified as Mannancherry native Safna Siyad, a tenth standard student at Govt Higher Secondary School in Kalavoor.

The tragic incident happened when Safna was crossing the road after deboarding a private bus. She was hit by a KSRTC Venad bus which dragged her for nearly 10 metres across the road. The witnesses accused the bus of overspeeding and said the girl had already crossed the road when the bus hit her. Safna’s friend Avani witnessed the mishap.

Avani screamed at the bus to stop after seeing the bus approaching Safna. However, all her attempts ended up in vain.

Police arrested KSRTC bus driver Noushad, who fled from the spot after the incident. The bus was heading from Vaikom to Alappuzha.

Safna is daughter of couple Siyad and Safeela. The funeral will be held on Sunday noon at the cemetery at Mannancherry Juma Masjid.
