Thiruvananthapuram: An order was issued to transfer general secretary of officers’ association B Harikumar who protested against the electricity board. Harikumar has been transferred from the Dyuthi project to Anti-Power Theft Squad in Palakkad. The department withheld his promotion, though he was in the list of officers due for promotion to the post of executive engineer.
The suspensions of association president MG Suresh Kumar and a woman leader Jasmine Banu were revoked. Transfers were given to them. The officers’ association has been continuing the protests demanding to repeal the transfers too. Minister K Krishnankutty had asserted that he would hear the complaints of the KSEB officers, if there are any. A meeting with the representatives of the association may be held on Monday.
However, KSEB chairman B Ashok stood firm in the stance that the transfers could not be revoked. The officers who were suspended from 1998 were never given the same position after the period of suspension. Instead, they were accorded with other charges under the department. The board may issue an explanatory note on Monday mentioning this.
The association has planned to strengthen the protest if a settlement could not be sorted out in the issue. If the situation prevails till April 30, the workers’ association under CITU may also join the protest.
