Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has not inked any deal with the Adani Group and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) initiated the contract, revealed Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) chairman N S Pillai. All contracts were made with the SECI. They are responsible for the payments and the contract, he added.

The advance permission of State Electricity Regulatory Board is required for purchasing even one unit of power. The contract was made in 2019 after seeking advance permission for rate and quantum. It is the KSEB which decides to purchase power and the permission for this is granted by the SERC (State Electricity Regulatory Commission), N S Pillai stated.

All procedures in this regard was completed. KSEB cannot skip any of the steps in this process. Otherwise, the regulator would not allow to collect this amount as tariff from the consumers. The advance permission of the regulator is required first and not government’s, he added.
