Injured dog at the shelter home in Valiathura
Thiruvananthapuram: A week back, Latha, secretary of ‘People for Animals’ received a phone call from Pattam informing that a critically injured stray dog was lying in front of the electricity office. A man had thrashed the dog with an iron rod repeatedly from here at night.
The accused has been identified as Murali, contract driver of the electricity office. He was arrested by the Medical College police and later released on bail. Murali informed the police that he attacked the dog when it ransacked KSEB’s car. Though many onlookers attempted to stop Murali, he continued beating the dog ruthlessly with a rod. CCTV footage revealed the visuals of the dog crawling as its legs were broken.
When the volunteers of People For Animals took the dog to the hospital at Jagathy, its head was also cut and soaked in blood. After providing emergency health care, the dog was shifted to the shelter home of the organization in Valiathura. A volunteer Sreedevi Kartha said that the dog is gradually recovering. The volunteers of the organization have named the dog ‘Hope’. A complaint has been lodged with the KSEB chairman B Ashok demanding action against the accused.
