Thiruvananthapuram: Once the new service rules of Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) are approved, the job title of lineman will soon be forgotten. Instead, employees of KSEB working under that post will be known as technicians. Chief Engineer will become Chief General Manager. Other than for two posts, the term engineer will also disappear. Most of the engineers will thereby be known as managers.
The board has started preparations to completely modify job titles and conditions for a promotion. The draft of the revised service rules was given to the employees' organisations to get their feedback.
The existing service rules were framed way before the board transformed into a company. The government had directed KSEB to reframe the rules to something fitting a company. Once the inspection by PSC is completed, the rules will be accepted by the government and the notification will be issued.
Almost 20 per cent of cadre posts of Chief General Manager and Deputy Chief General Manager can be appointed from companies outside the board.
The employees' organisations have sought another week’s time to contemplate on the changes made. KSEB will hold talks with the organisations after that. The decision on whether the aforementioned rule changes are for new appointments or current employees will also be taken, informed the KSEB officials.
