KSEB collects Rs 100 cr as penalty within 5 years
Malappuram: Taking action against theft and misuse of power, the electricity board has collected Rs 100.19 cr by way of penalty within last 5 years. It is reported that large number of power theft and misuse were uncovered at northern districts. Malappuram district tops in this list.
As per the records of Vigilance Anti-Power Theft (APT) Squad, Rs 18 crore was levied as penalty in Malappuram district within 5 years. In the financial year 2017-2018, Rs 4.13 crore was collected. At the same time, Rs 4.40 crore was collected during 2018-2019. From March 2019 to December 3, Rs 3.50 crore was levied by the KSEB.
Compared to Malabar region, only few cases of penalty was reported in the southern districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Palakkad.
Vigilance APT Squad is in charge of taking action against theft and misuse of power. The squad will charge high penalty for excess use, power theft and misuse of domestic electricity connection for business purpose. An affidavit will be collected from the customer after levying the penalty. If the customer repeats the mistake again, KSEB will initiate criminal action against the customer.
