KSDMA issues yellow alert; warns of lightning strikes
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has warned of powerful lightning strikes along with the rains the state likely to experience in the coming days. It has asked the public to exercise caution and officials to take precautionary measures.
According to KSDMA, the state is likely to experience powerful lightning strikes between 2 pm and 10 pm. KSDMA warned that such lightning strikes are dangerous and may cause loss of life to humans and cattle besides damaging electrical equipment.
KSDMA has urged the public to take precautions as soon as dark clouds loom over the sky. People have been advised to be extra cautious as lightning strikes may not be visible during day time.
KSDMA has asked children to refrain from playing in open areas or on terraces of buildings between 2 pm and 10 pm. Considering the bypoll campaigns, KSDMA has directed political parties and their leaders to avoid standing on the stage during times of lightning strikes besides avoiding use of microphones.
Yellow alerts issued
KSDMA has issued a yellow alert in the following areas in the coming days
September 30 (Monday): Idukki, Thrissur and Malappuram.
October 1: (Tuesday): Kollam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur.
October 2 (Wednesday): Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode.
October 3 (Thursday): Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram.
