KPCC list approved with 304 members
Thiruvananthapuram: Putting to rest the long drawn-out disputes over the selection of office bearers to the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPPC), the party high command finally gave approval to a list of 304 members on Saturday.
There were lot of debates and discussions over the list, which was revised several times. The leaders of the state unit expressed disapproval, each time the list was revised.
The uncertainly over the list led the leaders of A, I groups of the Congress to bat for an organisational election. Following this, the national leadership approved the list after addressing the complaints.
In the 304-member-strong list, 282 are representatives of Block Congress Committee. Fifteen people are Parliamentary party representatives and seven are former KPCC Presidents. A and I Groups got almost equal representation in the list.
As many as 22 people in the list, including A K Antony, do not belong to any group. It also includes 28 women and 17 people from Dalit community. The number of people below 45 years of age has increased to 45.
The high command is learned to have intervened in the matter of some members whose representation in the list came under dispute. Shashi Tharoor has been included in the list as a representative of Block Congress Committee and not as a Parliamentary party representative.
The dispute over including Sarojini, supporter of Kodikunnil Suresh, was resolved by adding her as a member from Panthalam block. P C Vishnunadh, who was strongly endorsed by Oommen Chandy, was included as a representative of Ezhukone.
Maheswaran Nair, recommended by K Muraleedharan, will also be included. M K Raghavan will represent Madayi in Kannur.
The complaints of K V Thomas, K C Venugopal and P C Chacko have been addressed to an extent.
