
Kannur: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary and Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) national organising secretary K. Surendran (65) passed away on Sunday.
A native of Manjappalam in Kannur city, Surendran had complained of chest pain and was admitted to a private hospital on Sunday afternoon where he died.
He is survived by wife Sreeja, children Surya, Sruthi and son in law Shanoj.
A former DCC president in Kannur, Surendran entered active politics through INTUC. Surendran had worked as the district secretary, district president and state secretary of INTUC.
Pinarayi Vijayan expresses condolences
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the demise of K. Surendran. Taking to Facebook, the CM said that Surendran was an active political activist and a trade union who maintained friendships beyond political differences.

Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala condoled the demise of K. Surendran. I had a strong bond with Surendran who had performed exceptionally as the Kannur DCC president.
He worked admirably in the trade union sector for decades. He had spoken to me several hours before his death. With his demise, Congress in Kerala has lost a strong leader, Chennithala added.
