Kannur: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K Sudhakaran on Saturday met Thalassery Archdiocese Bishop Mar Joseph Pamplany. Sudhakaran’s meeting with Pamplany on Vishu day comes at a time when Kerala BJP is seen active in wooing in Christian community in the state.

BJP had conducted "Sneha Yatra", reaching out to Christians on the occasion of Easter. Similarly, many church leaders in the state, including Pamplany had made statements hinting at the community’s openness to consider BJP as a political party like any other party despite the anti-minority narrative against it.

Sudhakaran who visited Pamplany referred to the interaction as gratifying. He elaborated on Congress’ bond with the Christian community in Kerala.

He took the opportunity to take a dig at BJP and CPM. Sudhakaran termed BJP’s visit to church leaders as a “beggars’ visit” and said such visits will not yield any results. According to Sudhakaran, CPM wants to label that the Christian community favours BJP. “The intention is to consolidate Muslim votes over that narrative,” he alleged.
