Kochi: The police team investigating the death of Delhi native Muhammed Shafeeq (46) in Kochi suspects that he died by suicide. He arrived in Kochi after his son Mohammed Monis was summoned by NIA for questioning in the Kozhikode train arson case.

Shafeeq, hailing from Shaheen Bagh, was found hanging in the bathroom of a hotel room in Kadavanthra on Friday. Following the incident, policemen were deployed outside the hotel room. Initially, the police also suspected foul play in the incident.

The probe team inspected the hotel room on Sunday. The doctor of Alappuzha Medical College, who performed the post-mortem, also accompanied the officials.

Police believe that Shafeeq was sombre over NIA questioning his son and same forced him to end his life.
