Kozhikode NIT student kills himself by jumping off hostel building

Kozhikode: A student at Kozhikode NIT killed himself by jumping from the hostel building on Wednesday morning. The deceased is West Bengal native Nidhin Sharma (22), a second-year electrical engineering student.

The reason for his suicide is unknown. Sharma sent a WhatsApp message to his friends saying he was going to end his life. His body has been kept at the medical college mortuary.

In December 2022, a Telangana native second-year computer science student had similarly took his own life. Police said his suicide note stated that he had lost a huge sum of money online.

In September that year, a Malayali student suicided at a college hostel in Punjab. Akhil S Dileep (21), a Cherthala native, was found hanging in his hostel room on Tuesday afternoon. Akhil, a former student at NIT Kozhikode, joined the college in Punjab, after being expelled from NIT. In his suicide note, he accused a professor at Kozhikode NIT of expelling him from the primier institute.

In June 2022, a Uttar Pradesh native was found dead inside an NIT hostel room. The second-year MTech electrical engineering student was found hanging. A suicide note found in the room states that no one was responsible for his death.
