Kozhikode: The Kozhikode Kennel Club will conduct Kozken Show on November 26 and 27 at Zamorins HSS Ground in Tali here. Film producer PV Gangadharan will inaugurate the championship dog show this year.

A seminar will be conducted on the topic ‘German shepherd dog breed character assessment’ on November 25 in connection with the show. Nilesh Surve will address the seminar. He is the German Shepherd Dog Confederation of India's authorised speaker on character assessment.

The secretary of the Kozhikode Kennel Club, Neramannil Santhosh, said that there would be six shows this year, four all-breed and two speciality shows. “The Thiruvananthapuram club is also conducting this year's show at Kozhikode,” he said.

The judging panel for this year’s championship comprises six people. Two of the judges are from Montenegro, one from Macedonia, one from Bulgaria, one from the United Kingdom and one from South Korea. “This is the only show in India that is being judged by these many judges,” Santhosh said.

How the competition works:

The Kozhikode Kennel Club secretary said that all the breeds have been split into 11 groups. Of this, 10 groups are for foreign breeds and one just for Indian breeds. Every breed is further split as different classes like minor puppy, puppy, junior and intermediate.

“There are 11 classes; five for male, five for female and 'a champion in class'. The ‘best of breed’ is selected from among the winners of these 11 classes. The winner of the group is selected from the ‘best of breed’ winners,” he said.

The winner, runner up and second runner up is decided from the winners in the 11 groups. The biggest award in the show is the ‘best in show’. Other awards include ‘best puppy in show’ and ‘best in show bred in India’.

How to register:

The registration for the show can be done through the website ‘DogsNShows’. The entry fee for a dog is Rs 3,500.

The dogs that are participating in the show should possess a certificate issued by the Kennel Club of India.
