Kozhikode custodial death: 3 cops suspended, Human Rights Commission registers case

Kozhikode: Three cops were suspended from service here on Friday over the alleged custodial death of a man in Vadakara. Sajeevan(45), a native of Vadakara, died in custody after getting arrested in connection with an accident case. SI Bijeesh, ASI Arun, and CPO Gireesh of Vadakara Police Station were suspended by Kannur range DGP Rahul R Nair over the incident. The action was taken against the trio after considering prima facie evidence in the initial probe.

Meanwhile, Kerala Human Rights Commission had taken a case in the death of Sajeevan.

Sajeevan was taken into custody on Thursday night after two cars met with an accident. Following this, a brawl broke out between the car owners regarding compensation. Sajeevan was taken into custody for causing a brawl on a public place. Later, the family alleged that Sajeevan collapsed on the ground as a result of getting beaten by the cops at the police station.

The family also claimed that Sajeevan complained about chest pain while in police custody. They alleged that SI slapped him even after he agreed he was drunk.
