Kozhikode: As the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing in Kozhikode, the authorities assume that the district could witness 4,000 patients in the next few weeks.
The COVID-19 review meeting presided by Transport Minister A. K. Saseendran evaluated that the district is all set to face any situation regarding the pandemic. All arrangements including supply of oxygen cylinders are assured in the district.
If the number of COVID-19 patients rises to 4,000 in the district, 600 oxygen cylinders and 200 ventilators will be needed. Hence, oxygen cylinders are being stored at centres like police stations, the meeting observed.
The Beach Hospital will be converted to a COVID-19 special hospital as the spread of the virus is increasing. Apart from this, First-Line Treatment Centres under local self-government bodies will be established soon. At present, all wards in 14 panchayats and the Vadakara municipality are declared containment zones.
Various wards in 20 panchayats, 2 municipalities and corporation limits are also identified as containment zones. The district authority has decided to strengthen the restrictions in these areas.
For ensuring that COVID-19 restrictions are implemented in containment zones, 130 squads in urban areas and 118 squads in rural areas will be deployed.
Amidst this, Shahida, daughter of Karikkamkulam native Rukiyah, died here on Saturday. Rukiyah had earlier succumbed to COVID-19. Result of Shahida's coronavirus test is awaited.
