Kozhikode: Meeting of council party leaders of Kozhikode Corporation decided to give another month to controversial Zonta Infratech to complete biomining and capping of legacy waste dumped at Njeliyanparambu. BJP and UDF leaders disagreed with the decision.
The agreement will be extended with a fine for laxity in completing works within the time frame. The company has now informed the corporation that work will be completed before April 30.
A technical committee will oversee progress. Plastic waste will be removed from the site after biomining.
The corporation entered into a contract with Zonta in 2019 for biomining and the company has only completed 60 per cent of it. Similarly, the company did not care for tiny plastic particles as per norms, the corporation had earlier said.
The contract expired in November 2022. The contract amount was Rs 7 crore. The corporation has already given Rs 1.5 crore, according to reports.
Earlier, Kollam Corporation had decided to end the agreement with Zonta for garbage disposal over contract violations.
