Shino Mathew
Kottayam: The main suspect in the sensational Karukachal partner swapping case, who brutally murdered his wife, passed away on Monday morning at Government Medical College in Kottayam. He had been undergoing medical treatment after consuming poison.
After lodging a complaint against Shino Mathew, his wife was living separately from him at her family house with her children, father and brother. On May 19, Shino reached his wife’s house when none of the family members were present and allegedly hacked his wife to death. By evening on the same day, Shino consumed poison and was rushed to a private hospital in Changanassery. Though police shifted him to Kottayam Medical College and attempted to initiate procedures of interrogation, the hospital authorities refused to grant permission as his condition remained critical. Shino had informed the doctors that he bought the deadly poison via online.
The revelations of Shino’s wife in January 2022 had led the police to crack down on a wife-swapping racket in Karukachal. She revealed that she was the wife of one of the members of the racket and alleged that her husband forced her to have sexual relations with another person. Following a string of arrests, police uncovered a large network involving more than 1,000 members.
