Kottayam: A man who attempted suicide after hacking his wife died at a hospital in Ettumanoor on Saturday. It is learnt that he attacked his wife with a machete and tried to commit suicide following a quarrel with her.
The deceased was identified as George Kuriakose alias Sunny (57). His wife Milly is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thellakam. The doctors reported that her condition is stable.
After attacking and injuring his wife, Sunny reached his new house and attempted suicide by slitting the veins of his hand. After spotting him in a pool of blood, natives and police took him to Kottayam medical college. The incident took place on Friday noon.
Though Sunny was shifted to the ward on Saturday morning, he breathed his last around 8 am.
Sunny, a native of Kollam was an expatriate for many years. He was settled at his wife’s house in Aanamala. Sunny and Milly have a son.
According to the natives, the couple used to quarrel over property. Public representatives and others also intervened many times to settle the issues.
Police have started investigation into the suicide and visited the spot where Sunny was found. His body has been kept at Kottayam medical college mortuary after the inquest procedures.
